Beijing Tengwu, a Chinese developer announces that they are developing a 3D MMORPG, Kungfu Online. Our staff made an interview with Ms. Wang, the main designer of the game, through the internet.
Q: Thank you for your time today, Wang. Please first let us know something about Beijing Tengwu.
A: Our developing group in Beijing Tengwu named ourselves “C Force”, which has a double meaning of “centripetal force” and “China force”. We are a team consists of energetic and creative members who have produced those most popular PC games in the Chinese market these years(e.g. Chinese Paladin III, which becomes the best seller among all Chinese PC games with a total sales volume of over 330,000). We are also trying to make more and more people abroad know us and like playing our games.
Q: I’ve heard that currently you are developing a MMORPG called Kungfu Online. What is this game about? A: Based on the traditional Chinese culture, the story of Kungfu Online happens in a martial art world in full of mystery and fantasy, where energetic youngsters begin their adventures with their martial art skills. They gradually set up their rules of morality, order, justice and virtue, found their own sects, and finally establish a complete Kungfu world. By recording the whole process of how Chinese Kungfu begins, develops, and achieves perfection, the legends of those young people (who are supposed to be acted by players) will serve as a chronicle telling the source of errantry.
Q: Different sects?
A: Well, it has nothing to do with religion. The background of this game is a little bit like what Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon shows to you. And a sect is something like a guild in other games. Each sect has its specialized kind of Kungfu skills. Members of the sect will get some bonus while practicing and using these certain skills.
Q: I think the idea is cool and interesting, then how about the pictures?
A: Summarizing our years’ experience on developing large-scale computer games, we members of “C-FORCE” have created a brand new developing system specifically designed for massively multiplayer online games, the Quanta Engine. It does not only use advanced computer graphics and grid theory, but also optimizes and rebuilds them according to the features of online games, so that it contains improvement and breakthrough in several fields like client management, server capacity structure, network communication, client render and game administration tools. Later we can support you with several screenshot show the magnificent 3D graphics with style. Our art designers will try their best to present players the beauty of China’s natural scenery and ancient architectures.
Q: It sound’s like a very nice game. But I am afraid that our players here do not understand such typical Chinese concepts like “Five Elements”, “Eight Diagrams” very well. Don’t you think this will bring them some difficulties while playing Kungfu Online?
A: I don’t think we have to be worry about this. In fact, many young people in China don’t understand these age-old concepts either. There will be detailed illustration of these concepts in the game’s helping system, which can be considered as a guidance of the game rule and a brief introduction of traditional Chinese culture as well. I am sure that players who are used to games based on stories about knights and dragons will find the world of Kungfu very interesting.
Q: When can we look at the games' final release?
A: The beta version is planned to be released in the fall of this year. The testing stage will last for several months. At that time we will create an English version for players abroad.
Q: Is there anything further you would like to share with our readers?
A: We will finish the construction of our English official website of Kungfu Online at about the middle of March. You will find much more information about our game at www.gongfu.com.cn.
