This is a thread I started on another forum about a year ago, that didn't get a great response (it's a small forum). So here's the original topic copied verbatim:
Some of you (especially the younger generations) probably don't even know what those two words mean, considering that we live in a time where the concepts are foreign to us. Sure, people have been discourteous and disrespectful for eons now, but it has recently hit an all-time low.
Here are just a few examples of what I mean:
* Graffiti on public property
* Littering
* Not returning phone calls and/or e-mails (especially by people who should know better, such as employers...and even close friends)
* Not officially cancelling an appointment when one cannot make it (wasting the time of those who came into work JUST for the appointment)
* Talking loudly in a movie theater
* Using, or talking loudly on, a cell phone in places where quietness is observed (library, bookstore, restaurant, church, movie theater, classroom)
* Smoking outside of a place where people eat or drink (close enough for the smoke to enter the establishment)
* Rudeness displayed by sales people either in person or on the phone
* Using foul language in the presence of children (sorry...I might have done that on this forum, but not in the real world )
On the road:
* Switching lanes or making a turn without using the turn signal (and if you don't see a reason to use the signal, you've already proved my point)
* Not giving way when someone needs it and adjusting speed to ensure that that person never gets it
I'm assuming that there is a severe lack of education in these matters, but can someone explain what the hell is going on? Is humanity in a downward spiral ready to be purged from this Earth? I think we're long overdue for some sort of catastrophic natural disaster like a great flood, to wash away all the dingleberries from the anus of this planet (the exact anus of the earth is located somewhere in the Middle East...or Missouri ).
And, apparently, I'm not the only one who feels this way (in fact, many of the following links mention the same things that I did):

You are highly correct. One of the worst things that i hate that you've mentioned is the indicator because it happens alot here in Texas. Whenever we're driving and people cut in front of us without giving an indicator, it makes me and my dad really mad.

Um, that's a big gap.

Well, I try, to be respectful to other since I pretent to be respected, I go first since it's my way of doing things, but most of the times other peples seems to lack basic education to understand this. Probably the problem is in the big ego of some people who pretend respect without giving any, since they probably feel superior in some way, another fact is that we are more subjected to being anonynous people compared to our ancestors, so most of the time the culprits get away with their rudeness without paying any consequences, like being subjected to other peoples blamings.
I hope I have wrote the above in a comprensible way, it's not always easy to be clear in english for a non english speaker...

Thanks for the replies...all 2 of them.
(honestly...I don't know why this topic gets such a low response rate...and no, you don't have to bother replying now out of pity....)
Cricket: The Middle East is a given, but Missouri has, IIRC, the highest crime rate in all of the U.S.
goldark: You did just fine.
Education has a lot to do with it, I'm sure, but "ego" is probably the root of it.

the above sited discortesies is partially the reason I haven't gotten my license in Georgia, I live in the metro or surrounding area of Atlanta,
I had just stated to my husband that I hate Atlanta traffic for these reasons, we went to get his son today and in an hour I count over 10 of each offense.
Many of the things listed at the start of this topic, could be corrected or avoided by parental example. and parental enforcement. i believe alot of societies imperfection are the result of moral teachings in the home.
