We read about history.. and different culutres, religons, nationalities fought each other for several reasons.. but is it the cause of racism?
I think that racism came from "blame." One race blames another for their misfortunes. For example, American history, Whites blamed blacks from their depression.
What do you think?

I'd have to say ignorance. Notice how the educated are the first to accept change, and the rest gradually accepts. Thats pretty much the reason the government and other agencies advertises and promotes awareness of such issues, so that people can learn and throw away their bias and fears.

I'd call it something genetically inherent in all living 'animals'. Remeber, that we humans are still animals. There's this little bit in our survival instinct that makes us dislike/fear/hate other's unlike us. That would probably be the root of the whole thing. The cause would be environment, such as your upbringing. If your family hates [such and such], you're most likely going to have those values instilled in you to hate [such and such]. However, certain people still don't turn out that way, so there are other causes. Another cause is ignorance and lack of information. Sometimes, as in the case of MIddle Easterners shortly after 9-11, it's because others just need a scapegoat to push all their fears, anger and hatred on. Just a few of my unfinished thoughts.

The main cause is ignorance and fear. Can't blame it all on parents or upbringing. My father is one of the biggest racists I know, but I don't consider myself racist (even though he tried to beat it into me). I don't care what people look like, it's what's inside that counts. If somebody is a total A-hole, I don't hate his whole race, just him. If, let's just say, somebody from Iraq killed my family. I wouldn't hate all Iraqis, just him. I'd probably go kill his family just so he can see what it's like. But, who cares what other people look like.

Cause and effect. Whatever happen already, has happened and there is no way to change history. I know history is being repeated itself. Back in the old days, there is racism. It will never end and it will continue onto the next generation. If it does, wouldn't the planet be at peace? You will be dangling around and feel happy that everyone likes you. Can that be possible? Hmm...

most definetly ignorance and human nature...it's human nature to hate sadly
so yeah...and belief in superiority someone likes to be bigger than someone else...for those of you who have a little brother or sister i think you know what I mean but not that much into it. So yeah to me it's ignorance, sometimes the parents, and superiority

It also has a lot to do with where a person is from. Environment has a huge impact on people and though its not an excuse for being a racist it is a factor. Also some people may try to be open minded about races but may only come into contact with 2 or 3 people of a certain race in their life, if these few people are complete assholes then what do you think that person is going to think of their race?

As everyone else said ignorance and fear are key causes to that, what I want to know is why some christians are *beep*sematic. I am a christain and find that hatred towards jews because they killed jesus is stupid, I mean it says that he came to earth to die... why hate the people who helped save your soul?

Racism is basically caused by society focusing on the color of people's skin instead of the "content of their character". (from Martin Luther King Jr.) It's sort of hard to not have racism in the world because of different climate and resulting skin pigments and because it's probably the first thing people notice about someone when they first meet them.
Another reason people can be racist is the "bully mentality"; they believe that if they put someone else down, they raise themselves and build their own self-esteem while tearing the other person's apart. Racism is discrimination and, in most cases, is a bad thing. The only good case I can think of is in jokes, although they sometimes reinforce stereotypes.
