This is a question mostly for Baron, but how do these work? Are they just plug'n'play or do I need some sort of a driver? And how do they work in non-Windows operating systems?

I don't know BSD/Hurd/whatever, but *nix has 2 ways. One, a kernel module (xpad), that is built into the *buntu kernel, and a userspace driver that lets you config it a bit more (http://pingus.seul.o...rumbel/xboxdrv/). Also if you run X, and install a package called xserver-org-input-joystick it will emulate a mouse with the controler (crappy though)

As for windows, if it is a 1st party one, I don't think you "need" drivers, but I still would. The microcrap drivers suck. Ok, really they don't they just are nothing special, just a gamepad. The only good thing is that the big X pops up a menu, ie useless. There is a 3rd party driver that lets you configure it all you want, with a good, if ugly, gui unlike xboxdrv. It was at first for the original Xbox, but then they added 360 controlers to it, with a bit of a hack.

I'll try and find it.

Found it quick. It is called XBCD. Here is a link to the modded one that supports 360 controllers.http://matt-land.com/xbcd/
I found it way better then the microcrap ones. You can change keymaps, ect. (Inless the game uses x-input, which bypasses the driver pretty much and gets it direct from the controller)

Also, I guess you sure did know the right person to ask. (ツ)

Also, best computer controler.

Well... I don't know about that... It just seems like they don't make games compatible with other joypads lately... And that's a real crying shame. For instance, Sonic Generations works with other controllers, but is clearly set up for Xbox controllers, and Blur won't even let you configure any other type of controller!

Yeah, I have noticed that too, like with Super Meat Boy from the humble bundle.. That is where joy2key comes in. The problem is that it is the most common controler out here. Also, it doesn't hurt that it is a microsoft controler.

And once I figgered out how you farked up that link, and saw it.
Holy Hell. Bitching. But pass. WAY to much $$. Also, only good for flying games. Though I would love to put it through it paces with IW:EOC.

I don't have one, I was just thinking of getting one and wanted to know if there were any special requirements for using them.

Well, I would get one. Especially if you like shooters. Before the 360 controler, there really was no single controler that could be programed for. That means that games that do support it "Just work". Much like on a 360. No spending 10 trying to get the sensitivity just right, ect. Before the 360 controller, I would never use a controller to play FPS on PC, cause it just sucked. Now, it is just like playing on a console.

Uhh... That's crazy. I would NEVER use a controller for a shooter. I've tried, and that's why it took me so long to even tolerate shooters, because I didn't know about the glorious mouse and keyboard. Controllers are for racers, platformers, and other miscellaneous games, but never, EVER, EVER for shooters.

"Now it's just like playing on a console" Doesn't inspire faith in the controller, because you're basically saying it's awful and slow and hard to maneuver.

I agree that most controllers are crap, but those that are compatable, it is good.

You saying you don't like console shooters? Those are my favorite. It took me so long to play FPS's on the computer, cause the mouse/keyboard is just not as good. I much prefer a controler then anything else.

And yes, I am ready for the shit storm. I know you loser PC games are fiercly pro mouse. I say bais, but whatever.

Uhh, I don't think it's a bias because I resisted PC games for years, believing that there was no way a mouse could beat a controller. Even once I started playing games on my computer, I still insisted that controllers were better. But lately I've realized just how wrong I was.

Despite how I say I don't like console shooters, the last console game I played was MW3 on PS3... Unless you count playing a few rounds of Mario Kart when my sister's came to visit. Which I guess I do.

And I have yet to play MW3. Do want to though.

It's good man. I haven't played any of the other MW games so I didn't really know what was going on, story-wise, but it was still a lot of fun to play, and the story was engaging none-the-less. When they go on sale on Steam I might get them.

My brother is addicted to it. I intend to do it, but I am about out of HD space. :) Too many games installed mid-play. Got to finish them. Skyrim too up way to much of my time. :)

I know that feel breh. I've been playing the hell out of Sonic Generations trying to get S-Rank in each challenge. Which doesn't help that I only have about an hour of gaming time anyway...

Don't ever have children.

Not likely to be a problem.

Also, right now I am in the middle of: Pokemon Black, Monster Hunter Tri, Zelda WW, Zelda Twilight Princess, Stalker COP, Freedroid RPG, GoldenSun Dark Dawn, Tao's Adventure - Curse of the Demon Seal, and Zoids Saga DS.

I need to stop starting new games before I finish the original ones.
