What are your thoughts on tool assisted speedruns? They're the ultimate abuse of save states and of speed adjustments (some of these speedruns have people performing a different action every 1/60'th of a second. never mind the fact that people can't move that fast, but it's also doubtful as to whether or not the controllers could even accept input that fast).
Of course, abusing save states, in and of itself, isn't sufficient. Just because you can manipulate luck doesn't mean that you don't have to figure out which path is the optimal one, etc. This makes developing a tool-assisted speedrun incredibly time consuming.
Anyway, I think they're very impressive. They can also result in some amusing sequences.

Nope, only speedruns that use hacks to get through menus and text inputs and such. No saving at all.
I think those are impressive, as well, albeit for different reasons
When I, personally, watch a speedrun, I see someone performing feats I can't perform, myself. When I watch a tool-assisted speedrun, I see what, theoretically, is possible. Realistically, it's not, but realism is what speedruns are for
