Sorry guys, but I had to disable guest and newbie access to the download system. The server was getting raped and over 100gigs of bandwidth was getting used up in mere hours, resulting in downtime for not only Romsource, but other sites hosted by us too.
Because of this, we're reverting to our old policy that you need 5 posts in order to download.
It's a given that this will result in spam, but if the options are spam vs. downtime, I guess we'll have to take spam.

Well it's a given then. I guess the amount of bandwidth is either all used up or hardly used at all.
It's better that people have to join up though, I was worried when I saw "Bandwith exceeded" on the site. I'll always try and keep on top of the spam problem mate. Here's hoping it's gonna be ok.

I say there should be some kind of validation for people to download. All this 5 post limit stuff is doing is reviving old threads, especially those "What is your favorite [insert whatever here]" threads from years ago.

Well I guess it's probably not my place to even post in a thread like this, as I'm probably one of the people reanimating long-since dead threads but the spam issue isn't as bad as a no bandwidth issue. There isn't really a good way to handle this. Maybe if there was a way to limit the bandwidth that newer posters get... but idk if thats possible.

Well it's a pretty good idea, this one place I used to go to did that. It'd take a while to get validation since moderators weren't too active, but it'd keep leechers caged.
