You think those cars are BETTER?
You must be forgetting the BMW M3, BMW M5, Audi RS4, Aston Martin Vanquish, Aston Martin DB9, Porsche 911, Porsche Carerra GT, Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Porsche 959, Ferrari Enzo (ugly as sin though), Ferrari F430, Jaguar XKR, Jaguar XJ, Lotus Elise, Lotus Exige, TVR Sagaris, Mercedes SLR, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lamborghini Murcialago... just to name a few of my favourites.
The AE86 was NEVER a good car. Just because Keiichi Tsuchiya rates them doesn't make them a performance car. If you listen to his ideas on the car, he only likes them because they're so poor.
As much as I agree that the Japanese make great cars, they are in no way better than those made by the Germans, English and Italians. You only need to look at the performance statistics for each car mentioned to see the extent to which that statement is true. Obviously I have a soft spot for Japanese cars as I drive an Evo IX, but I can see that it is overshadowed by its European rivals.
As long as we can agree that "Australian" cars like the Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon are complete and utter crap, and are driven by bogans who always seem to have something to prove. Utes too. I hate utes.

i have a 1998 jaguar xj8L imported from britain. been driving it from 2003 to fall of 2006. its sitting in the garage right now. i love that car.
REALLY!?! XJ's are my absolute favourite luxury sedans. I love the interior of Jags. They're quite quick and nimble for such a large and heavy car too. The only thing I'd have to change is the transmission. Automatics feel foreign to me. I know they have gear selection on the auto box, but if its not a standard H-pattern, I get confused if I don't concentrate.
Although... We drive on the wrong side of the road here so shifting with the right hand feels odd for me as well... Maybe it'd be better if I stuck with autos when I'm in Europe...

Hmm, funny how when you think of japan, you think of the affordable sports cars, and when you think of europe, you think of the break-the-bank supercars.
I prefer Japan, because I have a 3rd gen RX7 fetish.
I like Euro cars too, but I never really got into the supercars so much, if I was going to go that far on a car, I'd drive KART. (which I do like)
