kefkadman: people say im weird tho, maybe they just dont feel enough
Stephanie z: People don't feel enough. People don't like feeling at all. Feeling makes them uncomfortable. It reminds them they're not perfect. No one wants to be sad or angry or scared or unsure. They think that all they need is happiness. So they push everything out. They numb themselves to it until when the time comes for them to actually feel, they can't. They don't know how. They've fixed themselves in a way so that they can't even be happy. In the end they sort of just exist. You're not like that, and they're not used to it.

The greatest band ever is slipknot and everyone knows... all agreed?
Slipknot is the most pathetic excuse for a band I have ever had the misfortune of listening too. Nu Metal sucks. In fact, it does not even deserve the metal word at the end. Nu music sucks. That sounds better. Its commercialized, corperate, and targeted at ignorant teenagers who like "eXtreme" music. Horrible. No guitar solos, no texture or depth to the music...just noise. The vocals suck, the bass line is achromatic, the vocals suck, and the drumming lacks any sense of coherency with the rest of the "music". Not only that, but the lyrics are either whiny and pathetic, or cheesy and psedo dark. I like my music to paint a picture. The one bands like Slipknot and Korn paints looks like a 5 year olds.
No, the best band in the world has to be Daylight Dies. Or Katatonia. So beatiful, but dark and melacholic at the same time. The guitars soar above the rest of the music offering a glimmer of light in the dark, and the vocals take you away to a place of dark beaty. Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden also garner strong attention for best band ever for me.

I listened to some of the "bands" you like..i swear i heard a power ballad. That isn't even heavy at all and you dare call that music? Dude, i bet you like H.I.M. because thats exactly what those bands sounded like, and Led Zeppelin is Metal not rock.
HIM is another band I hate viemently. Daylight Dies is metal, if thats the one you are refering to. I listen to all walks of metal. Doom metal is the most prevelent of my interests, with Daylight Dies and Katatonia topping my list. Doom metal is slow and melodic. There are no power ballads. Power ballads come from bands like Skid Row and Motley Crue, which are a stain on the pants of real music. Black Sabbath is also doom metal, well, the early stuff is. The song Black Sabbath inspired a band called Candlemass who created the genre. Opeth is another favorite of mine, although that is more in the domain of techinical death metal.
Your defintion of what metal is is scewered, as is alot of peoples. Trust me. I know my stuff when it comes to this topic, as I have been an avid listener, and I have read several books on the genre. I watch metal documentries. I post on metal forums. I wear Iron Maiden and Judas Priest shirts to school practically every day. I play guitar in a metal band. I listen to Slayer and Cannibal Corpse to wake up in the morning.
And I feel the aformentioned bands I mentioned are quite good. They are creative, and push the boundries of the genre, which in turn results in a unique sound. Iron Maiden was at the forefront of the New British Wave of Heavy Metal movement. Steve Harris' baseline speeded up the tempo of tradition metal bands, such as Sabbath and Priest. Black Sabbath invented the genre. Tony Iommi was a jazz guitarist who decided to use the G note intensly, something that had not been done before because in medevil culture, it was associated with the devil. Black Sabbath was formed around his riffs, and with Geeezer Butlers love for the occult, the resulting sound was a dark and aggressive noise that had not been heard before.
Daylight Dies is an interesting band. THey fuse together two profoundly different genres in death metal and doom metal, although the second of the aforementioned subgenri dominates the classification process. The song A Life Less Lived is the perfect example of their talent. The rythm guitar crushes you, while the lead guitar serandes you into a calm states. Its amazing.
Katatonia is a criminally underated doom metal band. They lost their edge recently and became dark rock after their singer had throat surgery, but every once in awhile, they will pull a riff out that will crush you(See Soils Song).
So, thats a glimpse at my classifiction of metal. And it coheres with that of fans who have been listening to the genre since its inception, as I talk to them frequently. Your defintion seems to be that of the newer guard, who confuses metal with hardcore and hard grunge.

If Fate did it, please return damien as a member.
It was heavy handed, even though damien got carried away bad mouthing him,
Fate took it down the ugly path with that "dick" comment.
